State Tuition Waivers

Illinois residents can compete for state ROTC tuition waivers during undergraduate or graduate programs. The ROTC department has 40 of these waivers active during each semester. This assistance is available to freshmen and sophomores without a military obligation.

The guidelines for earning an Illinois State Tuition Waiver award in conjunction with a Federal Scholarship Award are listed in the ROTC State Scholarship Contract 2008. The updated guidelines are located in paragraph 6 and state:

6. Illinois State Tuition Waiver Award in Conjunction with a Federal Scholarship Award

Cadets who wish to apply for and earn an Illinois State Tuition Waiver in conjunction with earning a Federal Scholarship must meet the following Scholar/Athlete/Leader criteria:

a. Scholar - must maintain a cumulative and semester GPA of 3.0 or higher

b. Athlete - must maintain an APFT score of 270 or above with a minimum of 90 points earned in each test category (push-ups, sit-ups, 2 mile run)

c. Leader - must participate in at least one ROTC extra-curricular activity (Ranger Challenge, Rifle Team, Color Guard)

d. Participation - must attend all required classes, physical training, and leadership labs. No unexcused absences.

The Professor of Military Science reserves commander's discretion on the awarding and/or termination of Illinois State Tuition Waivers based on outstanding and/or extenuating circumstances.
